New British Health Minister: We must learn to live with Covid
London, July 4 (EFE). – Britain’s new health minister, Sajid Javid, indicated this Sunday that the Conservative government intends to lift recent restrictions imposed by the World Health Organization by warning that the country must “learn to live together” with the disease.
Javid, who on June 26 replaced resigning Matt Hancock — who violated sanitation regulations by kissing a consultant in the mouth — says in an article in The Daily Mail that there are “health reasons” to repeal the pandemic restrictions.
“We’re on our way to July 19 (when the executive plans to complete the easing of confinement imposed last January), but we have to be honest with people about the fact that we cannot eliminate the virus,” the minister wrote.
Javid, who previously ran the Ministry of Economy and the Interior, among other ministries, explains that his first job in the health portfolio is to “reclaim our freedoms and learn to live with the virus.”
The housing minister, Robert Jenrick, also indicated in several interviews this Sunday that Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government plans to lift all remaining restrictions on July 19, including mask use, and will halt health security. Practices in the hands of the “individual responsibility” of citizens.
While the government is paving the way for a potential reopening of society – with changes also planned to international travel, where quarantines of vaccinated people could be lifted – doctors warn that some protections are needed to maintain the health sector. EFE
