Peter Parker is facing changes.In the trailer for Spider-Man: A New Day, which dropped today, Tom Holland's superhero returns to fight crime in New York.But he does so without the help of his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) or his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya, Holland's original partner), who no longer remembers his secret.
What is the reason for Peter's isolation?A sad-but-necessary spell cast by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which erases everyone's memories of Peter—only his superhero identity is incomplete.

Comic book readers can view Spider-Man's changing DNA as part of a possible story involving his transformation into Man-Spider, the version of Spider-Man that also appeared in the 90s movie series.With a famous mutant joining the X-Men in the MCU and rumors that Sadie Sink is set to play Jean Gray in Brand New Day, anything is possible.
Whether or not Brand New Day Spider-Man features, Peter is probably turning into a new version of himself.As we hear the narrator say in the trailer, "Spiders have three life cycles. Between cycles, it can expose the spider to danger. It's a kind of rebirth for spiders who manage to survive."
The trailer pays tribute to Spider-Man's first comic book appearance, 1962's Amazing Fantasy #15, right at the 2:08 mark, and sees Peter's nest looking badder than ever.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Holland's Peter's first appearance in an MCU film since 2021's No Way Home. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield did not reprise the masked version of the character from different universes. It also saw the death of Peter's beloved Aunt May (Marisa Tomei).
