With just over a month until Pragmata launches on PlayStation 5 on April 17th, I had the chance to spend a few hours trying out the game at a recent press event.
Diana's manipulation skills and Yu's armor
This hands-on preview is set in the New York-like cityscape featured during February's State of Play, allowing players to explore, fight, and upgrade as they make their way to the boss waiting at the end.
Hugh can equip various cannons to blast enemy 'bots, but their hardened armor means that normal gunfire will do nothing on their own.And that's where Diana's hacking skills come in.
As Hugh closes in on his target, Diana brings out a grid-like hacking panel.Draw a single continuous line across a blue square to successfully hack, dealing damage and temporarily weakening the enemy's armor.The more squares you connect, the greater the damage and the longer the armor will be disabled.Once you find a weak point, you can unleash Hugh's power to deal great damage.
That said, enemies won't just wait while you hack.You have to stay sharp, decide if you want to follow your luck and connect more blue squares or cut short to avoid incoming attacks.
Break the shields and avoid the missiles that interfere with the hacking
Some enemy bots are protected by red barriers in the form of shields, which make them immune to Diana's hacking.These shields can be destroyed by Hugh's gun or other attacks, opening the enemy to hack when they are removed.You will have to prioritize hacking or shooting depending on each encounter.
Some enemies will fire homing missiles at Hugh, but they can also be hacked.A successful hack will allow you to take control of the missile and target it at the launcher.
Master four types of weapons
Hugh can use four weapons.Every weapon except the main unit breaks when they run out of ammo, so you'll need to strategically decide when to use them.

Improve your hacking skills with Hacking Node
If you have a hack node, yellow tiles will appear on Diana's hack panel.Connecting them and performing a hack will trigger special effects.These range from Decode, which lowers enemy defenses, to Multi-Hack, which spreads the effect to nearby targets.Each use consumes one hack node, and once you run out, these perks are no longer activated.
In the full edition, various upgrades and customization options will allow you to carry multiple hacker nodes, greatly increasing tactical versatility.
Hardware and game development
The Shelter is a safe haven where you can heal your health and use items you've collected, such as Luna Filament, to unlock new abilities or upgrade your weapons and hacking zones.
When you unlock a Critical Down Node, you will be able to break down weak enemies and follow up with a powerful attack, making the battle more fluid and powerful.Be sure to regularly update and customize your loadout to be ready when you go deeper into the components.
Epic battles against huge enemy robots
After a lot of upgrades and tweaks along the way, by the end of the demo we were faced with a giant bot.The basic hacking and shooting gameplay remains the same, but this encounter definitely ups the ante with multiple area-of-effect attacks and multiple shields blocking hacking attempts.
Hacking through heavy fire was challenging, but I didn't lose progress even when I was pulled back to escape, giving me room to calmly complete the hack through the sections.
Just when I thought the battle was over and I was enjoying my victory, there was a sudden hacking step in the middle of the picture;the last reminder that this game does not let up until the end.
Pragmata offers a unique gameplay experience that combines shooting action with puzzle mechanics.I'm excited to see how the full release increases the tactical depth of the game.
