Not a year goes by without a re-examination of the relationship between the once close Prince William and Harry.Although the Duke of Sussex made it clear last year that he wanted a "reconciliation" with the royal family, he has not met William in person for years.

Harry will be excluded from one of the most important turning points in his brother's life, according to Tom Bower's new biography, Betrayal. This intriguing revelation was made by a "guest" who attended King Charles' coronation reception, claiming that "William had decided not to invite Harry to the coronation that afternoon."

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has responded to the book and author, saying "those interested in the facts will look elsewhere" while "those looking for outlandish intrigue and melodrama know where to look".He described Ball as someone who "crossed the line from criticism to fixation."

However, it cannot be denied that William and Harry have not been seen together in public since August 2024. Elsewhere in Betrayal, Bower suggests that the "unprecedented punishments" imposed on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor "must have surprised Harry."

Andrew was stripped of his princely title in October and later arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February 2026, but he has always strongly denied allegations of misconduct.Prince Harry has not responded publicly, but Bower privately said he "realizes that his own royal status is no longer invincible."

"It is clear that William is not taking prisoners. Once he becomes king, his brother will not be able to show sympathy for him and Meghan," said the royal historian.

Although it was King Charles who announced that he would strip his brother of his title, it was widely reported that William was also involved in the discussions. At the time, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond expressed her view that "that line had to be drawn and William was probably putting pressure on the King to do so."

According to Bowers, the Prince of Wales will not be allowed to consider who holds the title when he is King. The writer says, "It is clear that William will fight [Meghan's] disloyalty. He can remove Archie and Lilibet from their titles."

At birth, both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were given the royal surname Mountbatten-Windsor and did not hold the titles Prince and Princess. This changed when King Charles ascended the throne, as a royal grandson – through a son – was automatically entitled to such a title.

They are now officially on the throne as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibeth of Sussex. In theory, if Prince William really wanted to, he could take steps to remove the titles of his nephews, nieces, brother and sisters after becoming king. But I think that would have serious consequences, and something relatively big involving the Sussexes would have to happen to accelerate such a move.
