Much of the Sooners' success can be attributed to their seventh-ranked scoring defense, allowing just 13.92 points per game.Brent Venables leads the nation with 41 sacks, averaging more than three carries a game, while ranking fifth in rushing defense and holding opponents to an average of 81 yards. That's something he needs to improve on from his last outing after the quarterback totaled 21 yards.

🐘 no.9 Alabama (10-3)
The Tide got off to an unusually rough start, falling 31-17 to Florida State in Week 1. Tuscaloosa was on its feet after already missing its first 12-team playoff game the year before. But all that noise was silenced when the Tide walked into Athens on September 27 and snapped Georgia's 33-game home streak at Sanford Stadium.Just like that, the Tide was back in the playoffs and had perhaps their best win of the regular season.Kalen DeBoer's team led the table until the home loss to the Sooners, but the Tide still finished the season 10-2 with four straight wins.It suffered a 28-7 loss in a redemption game against Georgia in the SEC Championship, but Alabama still made the playoffs after an impressive regular-season resume.
Alabama is led by a strong passing game with Ty Simpson under center. They average 270 yards through the air per game, fourth among all CFP teams behind Mississippi State, Texas Tech and Miami. On the outside, they have two key playmakers: Ryan Williams and Jamie Bernard, whose speed is rare.
On defense, the Tide's strength is second, with the sixth-fewest passing yards per game in the country at 157.7.The Sooners don't have an explosive passing attack that averages more than 200 yards per game.Mateer went for just 138 in the first game against the Tide, a number that could be higher the second time around.
