The YouTube app on TV streaming devices has always felt like a classic game of jumping over a bunch of tires.Streaming apps need to be clean and tidy because you use them through a remote control, a relatively uncluttered interface compared to a computer cursor or a portable device's touch screen.
Although Google (owner of YouTube) has been teasing a major overhaul of the YouTube app (not the YouTube TV app, which is a separate subscription service for watching live TV) for most of 2025, it finally arrived on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

a new appearance
Video names are moved to the player's left-hand side of the game.
There's a new "description" button that replaces the clickable title and lets you view the video's comments, metadata, and creator information.
While the video is playing, the selected functions are now grouped into three sections. On the left you have the channel, description and subscription. In the middle you have pause, previous and next. And on the right side you have like, dislike, comment, save, captions and settings.
The subscribe button is always visible now and will change to show when a video is paid. For upcoming live streams, it will show "notify me".
When you're watching live sports, you'll now see a "multi-view" button that lets you watch multiple plays at once.YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers also get a view that shows you the lyrics and artwork, if available, for that song.
It's all too late, but as the saying goes, better late than never.
