Ming-Chi Kuo recently took to the MacroMicro podcast, where he shared new information about the iPhone Fold's production timeline.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently made a rare appearance on the MacroMicro podcast, where he shared information about the iPhone Fold production schedule. Here are the details.
'From the company's point of view, this product is due to launch next year'
After appearing on the MacroMicro podcast, Kuo published an extended note on many topics from the interview, including Google's recent success with the Gemini 3, debates over the AI bubble, and, of course, Apple.
One of his most interesting points was that he knows about the current state of development of the iPhone Fold.
According to him:
Development of the foldable iPhone is lagging behind earlier expectations, but a product announcement is still expected in 2H26.Due to early-stage manufacturing and production issues, steady delivery may not occur until 2027.With limited supply and expected high demand, the foldable iPhone could face shortages until at least the end of 2026.
In the podcast, while discussing this extended timeline, he said:
Therefore, I believe that next year's foldable phone could be similar to the iPhone X model. It will be released at the same time, but sales or mass production will be relatively late.Users may not receive the product until the end of the year or even next year.
Kuo also said Apple sees the iPhone Fold as a device to launch next year, "even if in small numbers," because foldable devices could be the next big smartphone development "before smart glasses with screens can replace them."
He also stated that despite stated expectations that Apple estimates shipments between 8 and 10 million units next year, "shipment estimates are likely to be revised":
"I have spoken to many customers and some of them estimate even lower volumes. (...) Given the difficulty of ramping up production and the fact that specifications may not be finalized until the end of the year, delivery estimates are likely to be revised."
