Google Photos may soon give you more control over how your photos and videos are backed up

Build a program

- Fixed schedule feature for Google Photos backups

- Currently this feature is not available in the app

- It can give more benefits to users when the backup is working

For many users on both Android and iOS, Google Photos will be the app of choice for backing up photos and videos to the cloud, and now it looks like those users are getting some control over how they're actually saved.

As noted by Android Authority, the latest version of Google Photos for Android contains hidden code that points to a reconfiguration of the stock settings page within the app to match the expressive UI elements introduced with Android 16.

A new feature is also mentioned: Backup routines. No word on what it is or how it works, but it looks like you'll be able to choose to sync your files to the cloud and save them.

You may be able to run backups daily or weekly, for example, or you may specify certain times when backups will not be performed (for example, if you have limited Internet access, you may want to stop backups).

The way it currently works is that when automatic backup is enabled in Google Photos, your photos and videos are re-synced when there's an internet connection – although you can only do this over Wi-Fi (not cellular) connections.

That's really all the customization you can get - automatic backups are on or off (you can also trigger backups manually).Power users will undoubtedly appreciate a few more options for managing backups.

Although the code for this can be seen in the Google Photos app if you look closely, it is not currently active. It is unclear when this feature might launch, but if preparations are made, it will likely be sooner rather than later.
