Health officials have confirmed three cases of measles in a family visiting Western Washington over the holidays, with possible exposure in Snohomish and King counties.
The family visited several public places while they were contagious, and anyone who was not immune there could develop symptoms between January 4 and January 22.
Officials say the risk to the general public is low, but they encourage people to check the status of their MMR vaccination and call a provider if symptoms develop.
SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA. Western Washington health officials are notifying the public of three confirmed cases of measles over the holiday period, all in the same family.
The cases involved an adult and two children from the same family who were infected from Dec. 27, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026. Health officials said the adult received at least one dose of the measles vaccine, while the children were not vaccinated.
The family was visiting from South Carolina and visited several locations in Everett, Mukilteo and Everett while contagious.The Snohomish County Health Department said the family was in the following locations before being diagnosed with measles:

Anyone who is in a listed location during the exposure period and is not immune to measles may develop symptoms between January 4th and January 22nd.
Measles are highly contagious and can stay in the air until two hours after an infected person abandoned an area, officials warned.People who could have been exposed to measles are asked to check their MMR vaccination status and stay home and call a doctor if symptoms fall.
The risk to the general public is low, as most people in Snohomish and King counties are immune to measles through vaccination.
Measles cases are on the rise nationwide, with 2,144 cases reported in the United States in 2025, the highest number since 1992. More information on measles is available on the Snohomish County Health Department website.
