Video shows FedEx cargo plane landing on its nose in Istanbul after landing gear fails
A FedEx Boeing-767 cargo plane made headlines on Tuesday as it successfully landed at Istanbul Airport in Turkey without its front landing gear. The plane, which was flying from Paris, encountered difficulties when the pilot informed the control tower that the landing gear had failed to open.
Airport officials sprang into action, assisting the plane in touching down safely on the runway. Video footage of the incident shows the aircraft tilting forward and dragging on its nose before coming to a stop, with fire trucks on scene quickly dousing it with water.
The two pilots on board the nearly 10-year-old freight aircraft were fortunately unharmed. As a precaution, the runway was temporarily closed as multiple agencies gathered for an investigation into the cause of the landing gear failure.
Although the incident may raise concerns in light of recent Boeing incidents, aviation experts advise against worry, emphasizing the safety of flying overall. FedEx confirmed that the flight experienced an issue during landing, but there were no reported injuries to any crew members.
Investigation authorities are currently coordinating with FedEx as more information about the incident becomes available. Despite the scare, the successful emergency landing serves as a testament to the skill and expertise of the pilots and airport officials involved.
