His message does not specify what kinds of sanctions may be proposed to the Security Council, Where China and Russia, with veto power and who have been demanding for more than a year for the easing of sanctions against Pyongyangmay oppose the proposal. Five North Koreans were subject to financial sanctions by the US Treasury and the US State Department.
North Korea last week launched a missile it dubbed hypersonic. As the Security Council was meeting on Monday over the incident, Pyongyang claimed to have relaunched a hypersonic missile under the personal supervision of North Korea’s No. 1 Kim Jong-un. The new essay was described by diplomats as “provocation”.
The most recent expressions of unity in the Security Council date back to 2017. Under the administration of Republican Donald Trump, the United States unanimously adopted three batteries of economic sanctions. After a nuclear-powered missile test by North Korea, each one is stronger than the other.
The measures still in place, among other things, limit and restrict oil imports by Pyongyang. Export of coal, iron, fishing or textiles.
