Man arrested for abandoning husky in El Paso
a step- The El Paso Police Department (EPCSO) reports that a 68-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty and arrested after being involved in abandoning a husky dog in Horizon City last Sunday.
Luis Antonio Campos was admitted to the El Paso County Detention Center and a $5,000 bond was released, released during the proceedings against him.
Campos was apparently driving a jeep from which the pup was dropped by another man – unidentified – and left on the side of the road at the intersection of the ascent and equinox on the horizon.
A witness at the scene provided a video of the moment the dog was abandoned. The photos spread on social media, garnered more than 500,000 views, causing outrage in the El Paso community.
The dog is about 10 months old and is healthy after being treated for ticks.
The Husky was adopted on Wednesday by a family who called volunteers from Huckleberry Hound Dog Rescue of El Paso, a non-profit organization. The pet even has a new name: Nanook.
The Sheriff’s Office investigator assigned to the Animal Cruelty Unit has assigned the case to investigate and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
