Cowboys QB Dak Prescott expected to play on current contract for 2024 seaso
The Dallas Cowboys made headlines recently by restructuring quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract, converting a $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus. This move helped shave $4 million off Prescott’s salary cap figure, which now sits at $55.445 million.
In addition to the bonus conversion, the club also added two void years through 2028 to Prescott’s contract. This restructuring comes after Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract in 2021 with clauses forbidding trades and franchise tags.
If Prescott is not signed to an extension, he would count $40.46 million against the 2025 salary cap. Despite this, owner Jerry Jones expressed confidence in Prescott’s future with the team, stating they are “locked and loaded” for the upcoming season.
Jones also mentioned that there is still time for both sides to figure out any potential contract extensions in the future. Prescott negotiated a shorter four-year deal in 2021 due to his leverage after Dallas used franchise tags on him.
The restructuring of Prescott’s contract highlights the team’s commitment to keeping their star quarterback in Dallas for the long term. With Jones’ reassurance and ongoing negotiations, Cowboys fans can look forward to seeing Prescott lead the team for years to come.
