These are the three most important changes
It’s official: The 2024 Formula 1 World Cup calendar has been revealed and has a track record of racing, in which there will be a total of 24 Grands Prix.
The course will start on Saturday, March 2nd at the Bahrain Circuit and end at the Abu Dhabi Circuit on December 8th.
There are three important differences regarding past seasons or the current Formula 1 season with what we will have in 2024.
Saturday races
Already in 2023 we will have the first race since 1985 that will start on Saturday, when it will take place on November 18th at the track in Las Vegas, USA.
However, for 2024, what’s new is that the first two circuits of the season will have an official competition on Saturday.
“In 2024, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will join Las Vegas to make it three Saturday races on the calendar, the former two taking up Ramadan.which is a period of fasting, prayer and meditation that Muslims around the world adhere to, which begins on Sunday, March 10, one day after the Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia.
This means that all Grand Prix-related events will be moved up for one day, starting with Thursday’s two free practice sessions.
Calendar supports localization
Formula 1 strives to make motorsport more sustainable and travel between countries more efficient, which is why it decided to move some dates in the calendar.
For example, Japan moved from September to April, to make it easier to move from Australia. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will not be in September, but will go before Singapore.
Finally, Qatar changed from October to December, to serve as a pit stop for the race that finished in Las Vegas and to serve as a preview of the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
China returns to the F1 calendar
Formula 1 has announced that China will once again take the Grand Prix, something that has not happened since 2019, when it left the calendar due to the difficulties presented by Covid-19.
This means Formula 1 will have 24 Super Grands Prix, with the traditional three-week summer break remaining in August, plus an additional three-week break between Singapore and Austin and a two-week break between Brazil and Las Vegas.
next to, It is expected that in 2024 it will be possible to run the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, in Imola, which was canceled this year due to the heavy floods that hit this region of Italy.
