Pedro Sanchez advocates for the European Union to improve the vaccine delivery mechanism

On Monday in Brussels, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will defend against the rest of the European Union leaders to improve the vaccine distribution mechanism to speed up the process towards the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

On May 24 and 25, Sanchez will participate in the European Council meeting, the first to be held in person in the Belgian capital in 2021.

An event of an extraordinary nature in which the heads of state and government of the European Union analyze the coordination of society’s response to the Covid-19 epidemic, the vaccination process, the fight against climate change, and relations with Russia and the United Kingdom.

And according to government sources, the CEO is insisting that efforts must be redoubled to ensure universal access to vaccines.

With the vaccination rate in Spain confirming that in mid-August it would allow for mass immunity (70 percent of the vaccinated population), Sanchez insisted that vaccines should reach everyone and not let anyone come back.

Last Friday, he repeated his speech at the virtual summit on health organized by the Italian Presidency of the G20 and the European Commission.

An event in which it was proposed to establish an international treaty on epidemics that would encourage shared responsibility, transparency and cooperation between countries and allow us to prepare for possible future recurrence.

European Union leaders have already discussed at the Social Summit in Porto this month a proposal by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to raise vaccine patents, and although they see it with good eyes, they consider it should go further.

In this sense, the Head of Government is also committed to accelerating the transfer of technology and knowledge about vaccines to all countries, as well as enhancing manufacturing capacity and achieving a faster and more efficient distribution.

The importance of implementing the digital green certification, which will facilitate mobility among European citizens from July 1, will be another issue addressed by European leaders.

Certificate of particular interest to countries that, like Spain, have an economy largely linked to the tourism sector.

In the European Council debate on combating climate change, Sanchez will be able to introduce the first law on this issue approved in Spain.

Last week, the plenary session of Congress gave the green light to this bill that lays out a roadmap to end the sale of polluting cars by 2040, cut emissions and achieve complete carbon removal.
