The International Tuna Center in Bermeo will strengthen the links between science and fishing

Bermeo Tuna World Capital (BTWC), an association working to promote the sustainable management of tuna fish globally as a natural resource based on scientific knowledge and leadership of good practice, has begun the process of employing a master plan formulation service for a future International Tuna Center in the fishing village. They clarified from the entity that the “physical and conceptual” space would become the headquarters or meeting point for “all agents who are part of the tuna value chain”.

“It will be designed and created by Bermeo and Euskadi for the world, based on its traditions, the strength of the sector in our field and the institutional, commercial, technological and social forces that are applied in the integrated and sustainable development of its operation”, in advance of the BWC. They said its master plan would include requirements to fulfill the strengthening of cooperation between science and fishing, “in addition to promoting the economic and social development of the city of Bremio.”

In addition, it will work on an analysis of potential areas and markets, and a “business plan with the development of activities that will support the project”. The initiative should develop various services such as technology and the environment to enhance awareness and implement sustainable fishing. Within this section the objectives will be formulated “with an industrial commercial approach with new brands, standards and appellations of origin, among other proposals”.

However, the project must also participate and focus its objective in the areas of training, tourism, culture and gastronomy, as well as in managing “appropriate and attractive spaces for the development of activities and events,” as called for.

With your own store

The presentation of the master plan for the BWC should have its own store “in cooperation with local companies”. They explained that “its design generates benefits for local merchants and avoids conflicts of interest between the participating companies.”

To participate in the bid, aspiring companies must submit their bids ([email protected]) before the 31st. “The initial period for implementing the services derived from the contract will be six months from formalizing it,” specified.
