PS5 outsells Xbox Series X/S in 2023, research firm estimates | The Daily Guardia
PlayStation 5 Dominates Sales, Outsells Competitors
In a recent report released by research firm Ampere Analysis, it has been revealed that Sony’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) has outsold Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S by a staggering 3-to-1 ratio this year. This comes as no surprise, as the PS5 has been highly anticipated since its release in November 2020.
The report shows that sales of Sony’s console have skyrocketed by approximately 65 percent this year, reaching a remarkable 22.5 million units. On the other hand, Xbox Series X/S sales have faced a decline of 15 percent, with only 7.6 million units sold. Even Nintendo’s popular switch has not been able to escape the decline, with sales falling by 18 percent to 16.4 million units.
This news coincides with Sony’s announcement that the PS5 has reached a significant milestone of 50 million sales since its launch. Despite facing Covid-related supply issues, the PS5 achieved this feat just one week slower than its predecessor, the PS4.
November proved to be the biggest month for PlayStation sales, both in terms of units sold and revenues generated. It seems that the demand for the PS5 remains unwavering, even amidst global uncertainties.
Sony has high hopes for the future of the PS5, aiming to ship 25 million consoles by March 2024. If successful, this would surpass the record set by the original PlayStation 25 years ago. Eric Lempel, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s head of global marketing, expressed optimism that the PS5 will surpass the lifetime sales of its predecessor, the PS4, which sold a staggering 117 million units.
Lempel revealed that the demand for the PS5 has been overwhelming, and the momentum for its sales remains strong. This indicates a positive outlook for the console’s future sales, making it highly likely that it will achieve its ambitious goals.
With the overwhelming success of the PS5, it is clear that Sony has once again solidified its dominance in the gaming industry. As the battle between the gaming giants continues, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft responds to the PS5’s unprecedented lead in sales. For now, it seems that Sony’s reign in the gaming world remains unchallenged.
