Netflix will make a friendship movie that accidentally came on Thanksgiving
(CNN) – A text message about Thanksgiving dinner accidentally sent to the wrong number six years ago led to an enduring friendship. Now movie inspiration.
Netflix is developing a movie based on the chance encounter, which has gone viral on social media, written by Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton. The two Arizonas met in 2016 when Dench texted Hinton, rather than his grandson, to invite him to Thanksgiving dinner. The two quickly realized the confusion, but the dinner invitation stayed and Hinton accepted. They have celebrated the holidays together every year since then.
“We’re excited to share our story with the world,” Dench and Hinton said in a joint statement provided by Netflix. “We hope it inspires more people to connect and make connections that they normally wouldn’t. We are so lucky to find true friendship God alone from the wrong text message.”
Hinton also shared the news on Instagram, writing, “We thank each of you for your love and support on our journey over the past six years. We can’t wait to tell our story on the big screen!”
Abdul Williams will write the screenplay for the film, and Robert Teitel and George Tillman, Jr. will produce for State Street Pictures.
