General David Thompson, US experts agree that the US and China are in space races
Speaking to Reagan’s National Security Council on CNN’s Kristin Fisher, General Thompson warned that China will overtake the United States in space capabilities by the end of the decade.
“Basically, on average, they are building, expanding and improving their space capabilities at twice the speed.

When asked if the US calls it a space race with China, Cooper said “hell yeah.”
General Thompson and Kobacic both agreed with Cooper’s assessment.
Cooper has been a staunch supporter of the Air Force, but said Saturday he is not moving fast enough to “keep up” with the private sector.
“It is gratifying that the private sector is more innovative than our air force, and the space force must be more innovative and strive to stay in the private sector,” Cooper said.
He added, “To be truly superior, we have to transcend Elon Musk’s imagination, beyond Jeff Bezos’ imagination, in their wallets. Are we good enough?”
Cooper proposed that the Space Force be like the Office of National Intelligence, which oversees government space satellites and provides satellite intelligence to many US agencies.
“NRO has done a really great job,” Cooper said. “They are not as well known as other agencies…but I explained recently along with the NRO and Space Force.
When asked to respond, General Thompson said, “As Congressman Cooper pointed out, every time we meet, Congressman Cooper constantly asks what he can do to help, and my request to him is always the same: to always be firm.” I can tell you this morning that he’s still influential in both roles.”
