Discord will force you to change your username and the community thinks this is ‘stupid’

Discord is an incredibly popular app in the gaming arena and more and more people are using it as their preferred communication service. However, being popular doesn’t make Discord safe from angering its community, as it did recently with an action involving usernames.

through a post on your websiteDiscord has announced that it is preparing for a very important change. As it turns out, their username system will be modified to make it easier to “call your friends.”

If you are a Discord user, you know that until now, every username had a number attached to it called a identifier. This means that multiple people can have the same username, with the last digits being the element that changes. Thus, one person can be called LevelUp #0084 and another user called LevelUp #8932.

Simple, right? Additionally, this prevented people from leaving the username they wanted just because someone had already taken it before. With that being said, Discord feels this system can also lead to problems so it will remove it.

The dispute will force you to change your username

Thus, Discord will implement a system that kills users with a differentiator, to get a new username without numbers. As a result, all Discord users will have to choose a new username at some point.

According to Discord, new usernames will be available sometime over the next few weeks, so you’ll be able to choose yours soon. It is worth noting that the new names are written in lowercase letters, with alphanumeric characters and are limited to certain special characters. The goal is to make it easier to remember, read, write and share.

The point is, your display name (that is, the name that appears on servers and your conversations with friends) will not change. So, you can still be “almost anything” as long as you follow Discord’s Community Guidelines.

The community is not happy with Discord’s change

Unfortunately for Discord, the change has not resonated positively with the community. In social networks, they think it’s a “stupid” mod that goes against some of the characteristics that make Discord special.

Discord literally can’t stop being stupid.

Stupid IMO. Allegedly the reason they do this is because bc is typing the numbers wrong or whatever but the guy
