About 300 people were trapped and at least eight were affected when a fire broke out on Wednesday at the World Trade Center in the Causeway Bay district of Hong Kong (China).
Police said that preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started in an electrical switch room on the first floor of the mall, before spreading to scaffolding covering part of the building. Then smoke entered the mall itself and the back stairs.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and raised the alert level to level 3 (5 being the most dangerous). They urged people trapped inside the building not to go down the stairs and to stay on safe floors.
The citizen who presented the clip indicated that the site was on the fifth floor, and said that it was originally on the twelfth floor of the mall, and because of the smoke, she went up the stairs to the empty space on the fifth floor. Nowadays there are rescue stairs in different places. Sources at the scene said that on the fifth floor platform, many elderly people were forced to rescue in a small space. pic.twitter.com/eL1Iun9JeW
