This was Alfa Karina Aruestra’s first night at Everest Base Camp
Alpha Karina Aruebe spent her first night at the base camp of Mount Everest, and according to the Salvadoran mountaineer, she woke up to -27 degrees, but was happy with the improvement in her oxygen level due to her climb to the highest surface on the planet at 8,848 meters above sea level (masl)
The Salvadoran mountaineer arrived at Everest base camp on Sunday and the cooler temperatures are already part of the challenge and acclimatization phase before the ultimate challenge of reaching the summit.
“She woke up with a layer of ice on her sleeping bag,” was one of El Salvador’s messages on social networks, a tool that, in addition to its location, conveys details of the weather and some of her feelings.
Alpha Karina traveled on March 22nd hoping to become the first Salvadoran to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
Aruch posted after his first night at base camp: “It was a good night, and I heard several avalanches, and we were in front of the Khumbu Waterfall. 15 degrees below zero.”
He will ascend El Salvador with a group of nine climbers from Romania, India, the United States, Montenegro, the United Kingdom, Japan and Estonia.
The mountaineer confirmed: “Yesterday I had 76 oxygen, I woke up today 85, so it will improve with the days that we acclimatize to CP.”
Mount Everest will be added to the list of Aruebe Achievements Highlighting the 2015 Central American Peaks Challenge and was the first female mountaineer in El Salvador to do so. His page also features the challenge of the 37 official summits of Guatemala that earned him recognition as “Hija del Quetzal” in 2017 and the ascent of the 2017 Aconcagua summit, the highest in America.
Aruch wrote: “Grateful for life for this opportunity !! They have no idea of all the obstacles I had to overcome in order to be here and the great sacrifices to pay for the expedition, but dreams are priceless.”
