David Zayas created a postmark design for the Mall of San Juan
Puerto Rican visual artist David Zayas is the creator of the new postmark commemorating the month of January, Self-esteem month for the station San Juan Mall.
The Pictorial Cancellation (Postmark) will be officially presented Monday, January 30, at the San Juan Mall as part of the conclusion of Self-Esteem Month. The artist will participate in the event.
Illustrator and muralist Zayas designed the artwork for the stamp, which is officially approved by the United States Post Office.
Zeas explained to The new day A little about the creative process of postmarking and the challenge of creating a design that represented self-respect while still looking for imperfections on the rubbery materials typically used in a commemorative stamp.
The artist explained that developing an art related to self-esteem “is complex because it is a very individual aspect of each person, and requires each person to work with themselves.” In this sense, he chose the girl as the main image of the black and white design.
“The girl is watering flowers that represent her body which is our being. She is watering her own flowers. Convinced that the design is perfect for a postal stamp, the artist said they are excited and excited to be part of the initiative dedicated to the San Juan Postal Service Station.
The painter and muralist in turn emphasized that the presence of nature was important to him, indeed it is part of most of his artwork.
Zayas has a 20-year career as a visual artist and this year or 2024 hopes to present a new exhibition of between 15 and 30 works.
