Most anticipated movies in 2023: “Indiana Jones,” “Barbie,” and “The Little Mermaid”
Los Angeles, USA
In this new year, theaters are expecting returns like the characters of Indiana Jones and John Wick, not forgetting the little mermaid Ariel and premieres full of anticipations like the human version of Barbie.
Martin Scorsese’s return will be in Killers of the Flower Moon, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
And Harrison Ford will return to work as archaeologist Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones in the fifth George Lucas-themed movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
James Mangold is in charge of the new part of the franchise that Steven Spielberg has so far directed.
Although there is little data about the plot, it is known that it will tie into the original trilogy of the 1980s by having Jones confront the Nazis again, but most of the film will be set in the 1960s, during the space race starring the Soviet Union and the United States.
After resurrecting Neo in “The Matrix Resurrections” in 2021, Keanu Reeves has once again delighted his fans with the premiere of “John Wick: Chapter 4.”
The film, whose shooting has been severely delayed due to the pandemic, will show the hit man suffering his final defeat as he finds a way to defeat the High Table criminal organization.
The action universe will also expand to television in 2023 with “The Continental,” a prequel that takes on the hotel killer from the Wick films.
The controversial Disney film “The Little Mermaid” will also be released in theaters in May 2023, starring actress and singer Halle Bailey, despite the repeated rejection and racist attacks she was subjected to by some followers of the original film.
The human version of The Little Mermaid has unleashed a wave of racist comments on social media since the announcement in 2019 that the protagonist would be African American.
Another female character who will jump into real life in 2023 is the famous Barbie doll in the movie of the same name directed by Greta Gerwig (“Lady Bird”) and starring Margot Robbie.
A few plot developments suggest that Barbie and her boyfriend Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, will be trapped in the real world, and follow the difficulties of becoming real women.
2023 will also be the return of Martin Scorsese. Finally, the famous director, who turned 80, premiered the movie “Killers of the Flower Moon”, which was originally supposed to see the light of day in 2022.
This is an adaptation of the homonymous book by David Grann, which follows the serial killings of an indigenous Osage tribe in the fight for oil during the 1920s.
In this film, the director has the two most visible stars in his filmography: Robert De Niro, with whom he has worked on eight other occasions, including in “Taxi Driver” and “The Irishman”, and Leonardo DiCaprio, star of many Scorsese. Among them are “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “The Departed” (2006).
The Mario Brothers’ beloved plumber, made famous in the 1980s Nintendo video game, will finally get a second chance at the big screen after the failure of the first film adaptation in 1993, with “Super Mario Bros.”
The movie will follow the adventures of Mario, his brother Luigi, and Princess Peach on their journey to the Mushroom Kingdom and will feature actors such as Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Day in the main voices.
Marvel series are also expected to be released in 2023 such as the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in May or the animated movie “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” in June.
Meanwhile, the DC Comics universe is anxiously awaiting the June release of its “The Flash” movie, after its heroine, Ezra Miller, made controversial headlines: He was accused of leading a cult, shoplifting and harassing a young woman.
