London. Swedish supergroup ABBA returned triumphantly to the UK music charts on Friday, peaking at No. 1 with their first album in 40 years: Voyage,
According to the UK Official Charts Company, the album is the fastest-selling album of all time this year, with 204,000 copies in its first week.
Only three other artists have sold over 200,000 in the past decade: Adele With 25, with Ed Sheeran split up And memories of midnight D One Direction.
“We are very pleased that our fans are enjoying our new album as much as we have enjoyed doing it,” ABBA said in a statement. “We are absolutely thrilled to have an album at the top of the charts again!”
Voyage, which has received mixed reviews, is the band’s first album since visitors, 1981 and is ABBA’s 10th No. 1 in the UK.
The Official Chart Company said, “It also represents a total of 58 weeks for ABBA to peak at number 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart – the only two other groups in history to have spent more weeks at the top, The Beatles and Elvis.”
He said that the total Voyage It contained 90% physical copies, including 29,900 on vinyl, making it “the fastest-selling vinyl release of the century”.
Summer, ABBA’s greatest hits compilation album Sleep It crossed thousand weeks on the UK best-selling album charts.
ABBA parted ways in 1980, eight years after such worldwide hits as “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo”.
