The United States has pledged to support the Sembrando Vida program from AMLO
The United States Special Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, assured that the Joe Biden government would help implement the Sembrando Vida program promoted by President Andres Manuel López Obrador as part of the fight against climate change.
During the presentation of the program to the US delegation, Kerry said Mexico has “leadership in tackling climate change” and praised the deforestation initiatives.
“We have to recognize that these forests of Mexico, as President López Obrador has already said, can be a source of prosperity for communities, a symbol of Mexico’s leadership at a time when it is necessary to act on climate change.. In the name of President Biden, I want to tell you that you can count on us as part of the team to work with you in the future and I look forward to working with Mexico as a partner in this fight I am,” said Kerry from Palenque, Chiapas.
The US official said Sembrando Vida is not only a reforestation program, but “focused on the possibility of being connected to the land as part of their future, on the lives of people, at work, where they live”.
This, after last April, The Biden government rejected López Obrador’s offer to fund the program in Central America, Where he also asked to grant work visas and even residency or dual nationality to those who participate in the reforestation scheme for three years or more.
On the other hand, this Monday, John Kerry said that the Mexican president “acts correctly when focusing on deforestation.”
On the other hand, President López Obrador said that President Biden has “guarantees for the survival of all human beings, in the face of climate change and guaranteed lives. We are your allies in protecting the environment.”
During the climate change summit last April, the Mexican president focused on the need to expand the Sembrando Vida program and order migration to Central America, but also defended national production of oil and gasoline for domestic demand.
