The US tests 1.63 million people a day at airports, the highest since March 2020

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported that it screened 1.63 million passengers at the nation’s airports on Sunday, the highest number since March 2020, when the coronavirus virus epidemic occurred. It was easy.

The TSA said the number of air travelers to the United States is still 35% lower than the same date of 2019, or a drop of 1 million passengers. By comparison, only 170,000 people were screened at airports on the same day in May 2020.

The country’s airlines have added more flights in the summer, anticipating increased travel demand.

Last month, United Airlines indicated that more than 480 daily flights would be added to its US schedule in June to meet summer travel demand, which is expected to lead to more people receiving COVID-19 vaccines.

Airlines are seeing a boom in bookings as quick vaccination efforts encouraged leisure travel with friends and family after months of epidemic-related restrictions.
