Pluribus turns caloric deficit into a nightmare De Ferge

Episode 6 recap of Pluribus, the new sci-fi series on Apple TV.

Every week since PluriBus' premiere, I have been presented with a few burning questions about the future. And about most of these, when we really want to answer, we know. This explanation can be very satisfying when the answers to the mysteries begin to fill the premise.

A "caloric deficit" sometimes turns into a nightmare

Interview with spoilers for the sixth episode of the Apple TV sci-fi series.

A spoiler-filled discussion about episode 6 of the Apple TV sci-fi series.

Welcome to our weekly episode of Debate on Pluribus, the new sci-fi series on Apple TV breaking Bad Creatures from creator Vintigan. The show follows a woman named Carol (aka Eherorn), who is one of the "survivors" of Earth after an unknown virus turns the rest of the world into infected, mind-blowing insects.Carol is also one of the most complicated people on the planet. Each week, I throw out a few questions from the latest episode to start a conversation, so please sound off in the comments with your thoughts, views and questions.Obviously, spoilers follow for the first six episodes of pluribus.

Three main things happened this week. The first is that after Carol discovers that the hive is consuming something that really scares her, we finally find out what it is.And yes: these are people.Maybe it's not the biggest surprise, but what led up to it is really fascinating. It turns out that the hive's inability to harm extends to everything, even plant life, so they can't even pluck an apple from a tree. This has led to what John Cena describes in a helpful PSA video as a serious calorie deficit. And part of the solution is what they call HDP, or human protein, which means mixing in a little bit of meat from people who died of natural causes.

Second, Carol learns that the hive has found a solution to bring her and other survivors into the district. But there is a catch: This requires a surprising method that the hive can do with consent.Obviously, Carol would not agree.

Towards the end of the episode we also see that Manus (Carlos-Manuel Vasega) is finally ready to enter Israel after watching one of Carol's tapes where he heard about the nest. He's one of the remaining human survivors, but he's also very important to Carol because he seems to be the only one who participates in the Nest's trampling, and wants to make things go back to the way they were. The SNAG is that he lives in Paraguay, but they're getting ready for a road trip, so maybe the two will finally meet and earn the whole plot.

But our questions are great.

Is there a solution to the food crisis?

The whole cannibalism thing is obviously not a permanent solution to the hive.As Mr. Diabaté (Samba Schutte) tells Carol, the way things are going, most of them - a total of more than 7 billion people - will starve to death within the next 10 years.Which means that Carol's attempt to "save the world" by removing the hive mind could end up saving all lives if she could find out.Otherwise, it is not clear how much of the future the nest has provided for their dietary restrictions.

How about Carol and Manducos when?

Well, I've been asking for some variation of this question for a while, but now he actually came out to meet her, the evidence seems difficult. When the trip from Paraguay to Albuquerque isn't the biggest trip, but in a world without air travel, coupled with Manoso's unwillingness to accept any help, it will happen.

Will Mr. Diabaté ever wake up to reality?

Look, I kind of understand the temptation. The world is a strange place and he can do and get whatever he wants. But how long can he really last?In this episode, we see him living in Las Vegas, with the Hive around him cosplaying as extras in a James Bond movie.Given their current predicament in terms of food resources, this seems like an extraordinary waste. And part of what makes Mr. Diabate so frustrating is that he's often a thoughtful, likeable guy. When Carol is angry that the hive is starving, he calmly replies, "They don't see it that way."I hope he wakes up soon.
