Zeus, the Russian nuclear-powered spacecraft
In the framework of the Maks 2021 Airshow Submitted A model of the Russian spacecraft Zeus, which will be powered by nuclear power.
Zeus is a ship that serves different purposes. On the one hand, it will serve as a defense system and for this it will include electronic weapons and lasers, but it will also be a ship that can transport goods to different destinations in space. In addition, it will be equipped with a tracking system that will allow it to detect various space objects.
But perhaps more important than the above is the fact that Zeus is powerful enough to travel to space which until now was not possible. The spacecraft will be the so-called orbital nuclear station, which has enough power to send heavy payloads to Mars in a shorter time.
However, it won’t begin its promising space operation any time soon. Zeus is currently under construction and the final design is expected to be completed in 2024. After that, it will take another six years until 2030, when the first test flights are launched.
Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, has high expectations with Zeus, as it could theoretically be sent to planets like Venus or Mars and even be able to transmit what is necessary to install a base on other planets.
Zeus is another sign that a new space race is underway, in which Russia, the United States and China are participating. And now it’s not just government agencies, but billionaires and private companies are exploring the space on test flights, like what happened with Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin.
