If your grad school likes these recommendations they may still accept your application despite the low GPA.
Great Entry Test Scores
Your GPA is only one part of the student application process for grad school. Nearly every graduate school also requires applicants to take part in at least one general entry test; others have a specialized test that they conduct. In order to get into graduate schools with low GPA requirements, scoring well on these entry exams will be particularly important. Even schools with high GPA requirements could accept you, but it will be a bit more challenging. If your application can prove that you are a great candidate, then you just might get lucky.
University Selection
Certain universities simply want the best of the best students to apply. They are extremely sensitive even to the most minor of differences in scores.
