White House COVID Coordinator Says America Is Changing Pages on Pandemic
WASHINGTON, May 9 (Reuters) The United States is turning the page on the coronavirus epidemic and US health officials are now focusing on vaccinating more Americans, the COVID-19 response coordinator said on Sunday.
“I’d say we’re turning the page,” said patients in an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” program.
He said that trust is now being built and enough Americans are being vaccinated to reduce the spread of the virus and its variants.
US health officials are campaigning to address vaccine concerns and make it as easy as possible, with President Joe Biden’s goal of meeting 70% of Americans taking at least one dose on Independence Day on July 4. (Chart on Global Immunization https://tmsnrt.rs/3tUM8ta)
One of the White House’s top coronovirus consultants, Drs. Anthony Fauci said that if Biden’s goal was met or exceeded, another surge in coronovirus infection is unlikely.
“The more vaccinated a population is, the lower the proportion of the population being vaccinated, the next fall or winter-like weather will increase significantly,” said Fauci, director of NBC’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. .
“That’s why vaccines are so important. The wild card we have right now was not there last fall or last winter.”
