US Airdrops Aid in Northern Gaza Amid Limited Supplies
The Daily Guardian-
In response to the ongoing crisis in Gaza, the U.S. Central Command has taken action by dropping essential aid into the region. A total of 41,400 meal equivalents and 23,000 bottles of water were delivered to northern Gaza where aid has been limited. This effort was part of a joint operation involving U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft and U.S. Army soldiers specialized in the aerial delivery of humanitarian assistance.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with the death toll reaching 30,960 and at least 72,524 injured since the start of the war on Oct. 7. Tragically, 23 people have died of malnutrition, including 3 children in the Al-Shifa complex. International humanitarian organizations have been calling for a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages.
Despite the challenges, the U.S. plans to continue with follow-on aerial deliveries to Gaza to address the worsening humanitarian crisis. President Joe Biden has acknowledged the difficulty of securing a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas before Ramadan. In addition, the U.S. Department of Defense is working on establishing a temporary pier in Gaza to provide aid by sea. Once operational, this pier is estimated to provide over 2 million meals per day.
As the situation in Gaza remains critical, the international community continues to monitor and respond to the urgent needs of the population. The efforts of the U.S. Central Command highlight the importance of humanitarian assistance in times of crisis.
