Ukrainian President attends the G7 summit in Japan
A source close to the matter in Hiroshima told AFP on Friday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the G7 summit in Japan himself.
There were no immediate details on the arrival date of Ukraine’s ruler, who was initially scheduled to address the G7 leaders on Sunday via video conference.
Zelensky, whose country is facing a Russian invasion, has just completed a tour of several Europeans.
G7 leaders began arriving in Japan on Thursday for a summit focused on discussing tougher sanctions against Russia and assessing protections against “economic coercion” from China.
Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, welcomes the rulers of the world’s six other most advanced economies (Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom) in a city that is a symbol of nuclear devastation.
The European Union is also participating in the summit, and Japan has also called on India, Brazil and Indonesia, among other countries, to seek closeness to developing countries in which China is investing heavily.
