P148M supplemental budget up for approval

Bacolod City – The P148-million Supplemental Budget No. 2 is expected to get the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s approval today, August 14, during the body’s regular session.

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the SP found nothing controversial from Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.’s request for additional budget.

NegOcc firms pay P5.81M to 339 workers

Seven companies in Negros Occidental voluntarily complied with labor standard laws and paid the separation pay of 339 workers amounting to P5.81 million.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-6 Director Ponciano M. Ligutom lauded the efforts of these firms to settling the appropriate benefits to affected workers’ without the latter filing any case.

BACIWA seeks opinion on NRW, expansion deal

Bacolod City – The Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) management sought the opinion of the Office of Government Corporate Counsel after Maynilad withdrew from the proposed Miya-Maynilad non-revenue water (NRW) and expansion project.

In a press conference Tuesday morning, Atty. Juliana Carbon, BACIWA general manager said the issue is whether the firm can still pursue the project originally offered by Miya-Maynilad without the latter.

Ilonggo commuters are a pampered lot. While their counterparts in Metromanila risk life and limb every day running after jeepneys and buses, Ilonggos have the luxury of virtual door-to-door delivery service.

I don’t know if this is still a practice in the outlying towns, but way back jeepneys fetch their passengers from their homes even to the point of waiting while the passenger puts on the finish to her make-up.

Western Visayas has the lowest inorganic fertilizer prices among all regions on six major grades of fertilizer used by the farmers nationwide.

According to Rone L. Sangatanan, FPA 6 chief, the regional average price of urea (46-0-0) is P1,030/bag; Ammonium Sulphate (21-0-0) P650/bag; Complete fertilizer (14-14-14) P1,163.33/bag; Ammonium Phosphorous (16-20-0) P978.33/bag; MOP (0-0-60) P1,208.75/bag and DAP (18-46-0) P1,615/bag.

BSP issues rediscount rates for Aug ‘13

The BSP announced yesterday the rediscount rates applicable on loan availments by banking institutions for August 2013.

For loans under the Peso Rediscount Facility, the BSP Peso Rediscount Rate is 3.50 percent p.a. for all maturities. This has been in effect since 29 October 2012 in line with the Monetary Board (M.B.) policy decision to reduce policy rates at its 25 October 2012 meeting.  The M.B. decided to maintain the same during its last policy meeting on 25 July 2013. The Peso Rediscount Rate is based on the applicable BSP overnight reverse repurchase rate per Circular No. 679 dated 01 February 2010.
