AFTER impressing the country in various national and international swimming tournaments, a 12-year old aquanaut from Aklan is set to receive prestigious awards in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) awards at Le Pavillon in Pasay City, Feb. 13, 2017.
Swimming phenom Kyla Soguilon will receive the Milo Junior Athlete of the Year and the Philippine Junior Athlete of the Year awards.
Considered as the “Oscars” of Philippine Sports, the annual awards is an accolade organized by the PSA, the oldest media organization based in the Philippines.
The awards are given to sportsmen yearly to recognize their victories and achievements.
Soguilon, a Grade 6 student of Kalibo Sun Yat Sen School, is considered to be the country’s hope for an Olympic gold medal.
Soguilon was also hailed as the Most Bemedalled Athlete of the Year and Most Outstanding Swimmer.
Some of her remarkable wins include the 2016 Palarong Pambansa in Legazpi City, Albay, the 21st MILO Little Olympics in Cebu City and the 2016 Batang Pinoy in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte.
All throughout her journey, she already produced 32 gold, 12 silver, and two bronze medals for the Philippines which she won in various international tilts in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates.
She also set five new meet records and won four Most Outstanding Swimmer awards in her age category.
