Tay Tung snatches regional volley crown

THE women’s volleyball team of Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) pulled off a stunner as they walloped perennial rival Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions in three straight sets to claim the Rebisco Volleyball League Girls 18-Under Western Visayas title at the University of St. La Salle Gym in Bacolod City, Sept. 6.

The reigning Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals champion crushed the Iloilo-based team, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13.

Most Valuable Player (MVP) Shane Carmona led Tay Tung throughout the tournament.

BTTHS reached the finals after eliminating University of St. La Salle (USLS) – Bacolod in the knockout semifinals, 25-14, 25-21.

CPU, on the other hand, outscored Livingston International School (LIS), 25-16, 25-19, to reach the championship game.

In the finals encounter, the champions relied on the heroics of Best Setter Katherine Shaine Cortez, Best Opposite Attacker Alyssa Bertolano, Best 1st and 2nd Middle Blockers Joan Monares and Kiesha Sedonia, respectively.

CPU stalwarts Pearl Ann Denura and Chris Ann Susbilla were named Best Libero and Best 1st Outside Attacker.

Mariz Cosain of USLS got the Best 2nd Outside Attacker award.
