BACOLOD Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) Thunderbolts will represent the Visayas in the Akari National High School Volleyball Championships at Adamson University Gym in Manila from March 17-18, 2018.
The Bacolod City-based team booked a spot in the national levels after walloping archrival Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions in the Visayas leg at the Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) gym in January 2018.
According to Jose Montalbo, BTTHS vice president for sports, the two-day tournament is a good exposure for the team to develop their skills against powerhouse spikers in the country.
The team is bannered by Shane Carmona, Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Monares, Joan Doguna, Beatrice Decena, Jeanny Padilla, Nohlin Jundana, Marixi Maligmat, Kiesha Bedonia, Rhean Almendralejo, and Erika Deloria.
The elimination round on March 17 will be a race to 35 points with no deuce, while the semifinals and championship on March 18 will follow the best of five sets with deuce setup.
Marianne Sotomil said they are preparing well in the tournament. In fact, they train every day after class to strengthen their stamina and endurance for the actual competition.
Head coach Ian Macariola said that they will make Visayas proud.
“We prepared for it and we are really determined to win and bring home the crown,” he shared.
