THE championship game of Bingawan Foundation Cup-Preseason High School Basketball will pit Hua Siong College of Iloilo (HSCI) against St. Robert’s International Academy (SRIA) Panda Rockets at the Bingawan covered gym, June 19, 2018.
Hua Siong Red Phoenix reached the finals after defeating University of San Agustin (USA) Golden Eagles, 83-78, in overtime.
USA shooting guard John Michael Vicencio’s 32-point explosion (with six three-point shots, including a triple that tied the game at 72-all) was to naught thanks to the 26-point output of Hua Siong star Reynold Tupas.
In overtime, the score was tied at 78 all, but Hua Siong forward Reneil Gamboa made a shot to claim the lead, 78-80.
Tupas converted one of two free throw shots while Lee Jimera, who contributed 14 points, made two straight buckets at the foul line to seal the victory for Hua Siong.
The Panda Rockets eliminated Hercor College Junior Jaguars, 95-88.
A barrage of three-point shots by St. Robert’s guards Gwyn Miles Pendon (16 points), Roy Oscar Jacinto (9 points), Kent John Parreñas (7 points), and Louie Jay Villarosa (6 points) carried the Panda rockets to the finals.
The championship game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after the battle for third place at 1 p.m.
After the games, the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers will face Hercor College Jaguars, the Western Visayas Private School Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) champion, at 4 p.m.
