THE Department of Education-Negros Occidental through the Negros Occidental Provincial Sports Council is gearing towards effective and efficient management of DepEd athletic meets.
As part of the continues effort to capacitate teachers in officiating various local tournaments, the DepEd officials conducted a live-out Seminar-Workshop in Sports Officiating which started Oct 17 to 20.
The seminar aims to update sports officiating officials on the latest trends, rules and regulations of their respective sports disciplines.
It also upgrades their competencies as sports officiating officials in managing and officiating in school competitions and identifies qualified school officiating officials to officiate in the Congressional District Athletic Association Meets and Palarong Panlalawigan, and to be recommended in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet.
The activity covered the following sports disciplines in selected venues:
Athletics – Pontevedra track oval;
Archery and softball– Doña Monseratt Lopez Memorial High School in Silay City;
Arnis – Lopez Jaena National High School in Murcia;
Badminton – Victorias City Cultural Center;
Baseball, swimming and football – Bago City Sports Complex;
Basketball and boxing – Victorias City Coliseum;
Billiard, taekwondo, pencat silat and wushu – Negros Occidental High School;
Chess and table tennis– STI West Negros University;
Gymnastics – Bata Elementary School;
Tennis – Silay City Tennis Court;
Dancesports – Rizal Cultural and Civic Center in Silay City;
Volleyball – Pontevedra gym and;
Paralympics – Bacolod City Division Hall.
The seminar covered theoretical lectures on the qualities and roles of officiating officials and the rules of sports, practical application, paper and practical examination and physical fitness test.
Sports experts who have served in the national and international competitions are the facilitators and coordinators.
