THE BASKETBALL team of Saint Robert’s International Academy (SRIA) will test their mettle in the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Western Visayas Regional Finals which opened in Antique on Feb. 17, 2017.
Trained by head coach John Guanco along with team manager Paulo Verdeflor, the team recently earned a ticket to the regionals after thrashing Hua Siong College of Iloilo (HSCI),77-59, during their championship game at the Western Institute and Technology (WIT) new site covered gym.
Anthony Ogunsanya led SRIA’s three-peat victory in the Iloilo edition after scoring 21 points.
According to Guanco, they prepared well for the competition as they underwent daily rigid training. Part of their training includes jogging, daily practice, and stamina and endurance tests.
The team will clash with three teams from Capiz and Antique – Saint John Academy of Roxas City, Sibalom National High School of Antique and Libertad National Vocational School also from Antique.
The winner in the regional finals will represent Region 6 to the NBTC National Finals at MOA Arena on March 13-16, 2017.
SRIA is composed of Anthony Ogunsanya, Kevin Barranco, Zaldy Patizar, David Magbanua, Renz Anthon Dinzon, Aljoan Germinanda, Jan Deo Vonn Guara, Roy Oscar Jacinto, John Michael Montaña, Christian Louie Ochigue, Shaun Michael Ray Orgo, Rheizzel James Santiago, Menard Songcuya, Jose Brandon Dylan Tongol, and Louie Jay Villarosa.
Meanwhile, dribblers from the University of St. La Salle dethroned defending champ Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS), 90-79, in the Negros Island Region (NIR) Regional Finals at the Natalio G. Velez gym in Silay City. The team will represent NIR in the national finals.
