Red Cubs beat Malaysia to rule ASEAN Schools basketball

REIGNING NCAA juniors champion San Beda dumped Malaysia in the finals to rule the 3rd ASEAN Schools Games basketball tournament held at the ITE College East in Singapore.

The Red Cubs, aiming to win their third straight NCAA high school division crown in the 87th NCAA basketball tournament, clinched their third consecutive title after ruling the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup last month.

The Brit Reroma-mentored squad earned a finals berth after a 69-43 dumping of Indonesia in the semifinals while Malaysia tripped Singapore, 73-68, to earn a championship date with the San Beda-backed Philippine team.

Vietnam and Thailand also competed in the tournament.

San Beda earned the right to represent the Philippines after topping the 2011 Palarong Pambansa basketball tournament held last April in Dapitan City. They represented Region IV-A Calabarzon.

“The boys deserved the victory because they all worked hard in every game they played,” said Reroma. (GMA News)
