THE COUNTRY’S sepak-takraw team brought home the bronze medal in the recent ASEAN School Games hosted by the Department Ministry of Singapore on July 13-21, 2017.
Team PH was bannered by kickers from Negros Occidental and other schools from different regions. Six Negrense are part of the team – Ian Gerald Sudayan, June Clyde Abellano, Ricky Guarino, and Edhmic Dave Balderas of Victorias National High School; Paul John Embahador of Bata National High School; and Kervy Jules Cayetano of Lopez Jaena National High School (Murcia).
Aside from sepak-takraw, the country’s U18 women’s basketball team was also a surprise after claiming the crown against powerhouse team Singapore, 82-32.
Ilonggo James Lozañes also made history in the league after snatching gold in the javelin throw event and surpassed the 2015 record.
Lozañes, a pride of Carles, Iloilo, threw 66.36 meters to best eight competitors in Asia.
The Philippines finished sixth in the overall medal count, with 13 gold, eight silver, and 21 bronze medals.
Thailand finished on top with 29 gold, 25 silver, and 32 bronze medals.
