THE Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF) is sending its national men’s and women’s teams to Germany for a 20-day training camp.
The training camp in Germany’s western-central state of Hessen is part of the Filipino athletes’ preparation for the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) next month.
Athletes Jayson Ramil Macaalay, John Michael Vincent Badil, John Paul Bejar, Rexor Tacay, Sharief Afif, Carmelo Patricio Jr., Enegen Stoner Dagohoy, Orencio James Delos Santos, Miyuki Tacay, Mae Soriano, Erica Celine Samonte, Kimverly Madrona, Filipino-Japanese Junna Tsukii and two coaches make up the delegation which will depart for Germany on July 26.
Macaalay, 25, is one of the seasoned athletes in the team and a medal contender in the 2017 SEA Games. He won the gold medal in the men’s individual -60kg event and the silver in the team event in the Thailand Open last April.
From Germany, the delegation will return to the Philippines before heading to Malaysia, which is hosting the 29th edition of the SEA Games from August 19 to 30.
A total of 16 gold medals are at stake in the karatedo competition to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on August 22 to 24. (PNA)
