P30M to rehabilitate Palaro billeting schools

A TOTAL of P30 million will be spent to rehabilitate schools which will accommodate delegates to the Palarong Pambansa 2017 in Antique.

Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said the budget from the Department of Education (DepEd) will be used in rehabilitating 22 identified schools.

Antique will host the Palaro for the first time on April 23-29.

Cadiao said they met with DepEd assistant secretary Tonisito Umali at the close of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet last week to discuss the budget.

“They checked the areas last December 2016 and recommended to us to repair the schools, especially the comfort rooms so that participants will have a good stay during the week-long events,” she added.

Arthur Lastimoso, head of the Antique Palarong Pambansa Organizing Committee, also visited DepEd central office to follow up on the memorandum of agreement for the province’s hosting of the games.

The Antique provincial government held in January a sports summit to prepare the committees for the games.

Since it will be the first time for the province to host such event, they are now monitoring every aspect for the smooth and peaceful flow of the games.

More or less 20,000 student-athletes, coaches, officials, and other dignitaries are expected in the Palaro.
