Negros netter wins two gold medals in Asian tilt

A NATIVE of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental won two gold medals in the 13th Asian Tennis Federation 14-Under Series at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association Centre in Kuching City, Malaysia, Sept. 12.

Alexa Joy Milliam ruled the girls’ singles category after eliminating Lim Lim Zan Ning of Malaysia, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 during the gold medal match.

The Grade 8 student of Colegio de San Juan de Letran also won the girls’ doubles title with her Filipino-Singaporean partner Tamryn Brown at the expense of Malaysian duo of Lim Lim Zan Ning and Brittany Jing Yu Michael Tiang, 6-2, 6-1.

According to their coach Roland Kraut, Milliam dominated the tournament and she has a bright future in tennis.

“We won all events because our kids really prepared for the competition. All our efforts bear fruit and we’re happy to bring home the crown,” Kraut said in an online interview.

Completing the celebration for the Filipino delegation is Davao City native John David Velez captured the boys’ singles title after beating Rupert Ohrelle Tortal 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.
