NegOcc bids for 2013 Palaro hosting

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Tuesday that the province will bid for the hosting of the 2013 Palarong Pambansa, not 2012.
Marañon recently met with Education Secretary Armin Luistro to submit the formal bid for the Palaro hosting.
Marañon said Luistro told him that the hosting of 2012 Palaro is already assigned to Luzon while Visayas’ turn for hosting is in 2013 yet.
This year’s Palaro was held in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Marañon said if Negros Occidental wins the bid, they have more time to prepare.
“By 2013, the Paglaum Sports Complex would have been fully renovated and will add to our sports facilities of international standards. Panaad has better facilities than Rizal Stadium in Manila,” he added.
Marañon said the province is “very much capable” of hosting the Palaro.
“We have a good chance of winning the bid because we already have the sports facilities in place that comply with international standards,” he added.
The province had hosted two “historic” Palarong Pambansa – the Centennial Palarong Pambansa in 1998 and Millennium Palarong Pambansa in 2000 – and the Philippine National Games last May.
