AFTER a second place finish in the regional meet last month, Iloilo snatched the overall title in the 2019 Western Visayas Private Schools Association (WVPRISAA) Meet in Bacolod City, March 7.
Ilonggo secondary student-athletes made waves in the tournament with 114 gold, 81 silver, and 45 bronze medals. The team bagged most of their medals in taekwondo, swimming, and athletics – through team championships in secondary girls’ basketball and secondary girls’ table tennis.
Capiz ranked second with 55 gold, 62 silver, and 68 bronze medals, while Negros Occidental is in third place with 47-80-64 GSB. Aklan, on the other hand, collected 2-0-6 GSB.
The Iloilo team also took home the overall trophy in the tertiary division after harvesting 149 gold, 106 silver and 50 bronze medals. They dominated the tertiary volleyball championships and tertiary men’s sepak takraw.
Negros Occidental is second with 111 gold, 82 silver and 41 bronze medals, while Capiz and Aklan have 9-30-67 and 0-0-39 GSB, respectively.
Negros Occidental ruled the football and overall championships in men’s and women’s athletics. They also dominated the secondary boys’ and girls’ volleyball and secondary boys’ football.
Capiz secured the victory in athletics and secondary boys’ basketball.
All gold medalists in the just-concluded WVPRISAA will be the official representatives of Region 6 in the National finals in Davao City in May 2019.
