ARIANA Dormitorio of Iloilo City is on a roll in the international biking scene as she ruled Leg 2 of the 2017 Asian Mountain Bike Series, Tambunan, Sabah, Malaysia on Aug. 6.
Dormitorio kept her lead in the competition as she survived the 22-kilometer race which covered five laps of a 4.4km fast and technical course.
The pride of Iloilo City bested 12 other competing bikers in Asia, including perennial rival Warinthorn Phetraphan of Thailand who was forced to withdraw due to mechanical trouble.
Finishing 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 49 seconds, Dormitorio toppled second placer Siti Aisyah Alias of Malaysia (1:33.18) and third placer Siriluck Warapiang of Thailand (1:34.14).
Dormitorio said her win proves that Filipinos can compete and win in international biking competitions.
“This gold medal is for all the Filipinos. I can do it and you can do it also,” said Dormitorio who is now preparing for the World Under-23 Championships in Australia next month.
After the competition, Dormitorio and her father and coach Donjie Pascual Dormitorio will shift their focus to the U-23 race.
More or less 300 bikers from 14 countries competed in the race wherein winners will get the chance to earn points for Worlds and Olympic qualifiers.
