THE all Ilonggo Under-15 football club Iloilo United-Green Archers Team-B bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to JPV Marikina-B last Aug 27, 2018 by crushing Stallion FC and GOMS on Sept 1 and 2, respectively, in the Philippine Football Federation-Youth Football League (PFF-YFL).

Charles “Mokong” Carisma of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo was first to score against the Stallions in the 17th minute of the game.

Charisma scored off a bouncing ball inside the big box, kicking the ball with his right foot while it was at knee level. He was on target as the ball hit the top right portion of the Stallions net, much to the surprise of Iloilo United bench.

In the second half, Iloilo United kept their composure despite the muddy and slippery Field No. 7 of Alabang Country Club Football Field.

Their perseverance led to James Tuazon of CPU-Barotac Nuevo hitting the lower portion of the net from a 4-meter distance shot, concluding the game against Stallions at 2-0.

On Sunday, Iloilo United literally shut off GOMS U-15 Team, 3-0.

GOMS was even lucky to avoid a more embarrassing score line what with the barrage of more than ten crucial shots and attacks courtesy of team captain James Tuazon, Francis Botavara and Karlo Lustan, all of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.

First goal for Ilonggo United was actually courtesy of GOMS in the 17th minute. A strong rolling pass back kick by a GOMS defender to the goal area slipped past the right side of goalkeeper and ended up in the left corner of the net.

The own goal was a consequence of the pressure applied by Lian Joseph Celis of CPU who chased the ball on top of the big box of the opponent’s side.

Iloilo United continued their offense via a series of through-passes. In the 25th minute, Tuazon and Lustan almost scored their second goal but the goalie was quick to the draw.

On the 34th minute, Francis Botavara launched a left corner kick, with the ball taking off in a ballooning fashion before twirling to left and slipping through the hands of the GOMS goalie, sealing a 2-0 lead for the Ilonggos.

GOMS appeared to have given up even before the final whistle, but Iloilo United played more cohesively and the incessant attacks continued until Tuazon scored their third goal of the game.

Lustan tried to give Iloilo United their fourth goal almost but the goalie stymied his attempt.

Team manager Atty. Joseph Celis said Iloilo United dominated the game with an 80 percent possession “This is the second we beat the team of GOMS headed, trained and coach by a former Azkal player,” Celis said.

Celis said Iloilo United played tight defense, especially MatMat Sobredo who always got ahead of the ball before the forward attacker of GOMS can receive the ball.

The ever-consistent Charlie “Mokong” Carisma of Barotac Nuevo and Jake Salazar of Janiuay-CPU were also the team’s pillars on both ends of the pitch.

To date, Iloilo United has 9 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss to lead the league.
