HUA SIONG College of Iloilo (HSCI) and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu will represent Visayas region to the Small Basketeers Philippines (SBP)-Passerelle national finals in December 2017.
HSCI clinched the Milo Passarelle (12-14 years old) division crown while Ateneo de Cebu won the SBP (9 to 11 years old) division of the Visayas Regional Finals of the 32nd SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament at the Iloilo Sports Complex (ISC) covered court, Oct. 10, 2017.
Ateneo de Cebu banked on Kristian Porter and Jared Bahay to clinch the 9 to 11 years old division title after a 57-43 drubbing of St. John’s Institute (SJI) of Bacolod City.
The Cebuano dribblers opened the match with a 13-2 scoring run behind Porter. They ended the first quarter with an 18-6 lead over SJI.
Bahay also stepped up and led the visiting squad to a comfortable 30-14 halftime advantage.
The Bacolodnons, on the other hand, made a strong start in the third frame to narrow the gap to 27-34. But Ateneo de Cebu managed to pull away for good, 51-32, thanks to Joash Cutamora and Vince Suico.
Porter, brother of Ateneo Blue Eagles forward Kris Porter, finished with 19 points, including 11 in the opening quarter.
Bahay also contributed 14 baskets to the winning team.
Dylan Despi had 12 points while Christian Yap chipped in with 11 points for SJI.
HSCI earned a national finals berth after snatching the championship from Bacolod Tay Tung High School, 56-52.
